Course overview:

As simple as communication seems, much of what we try to communicate to others-and what others try to communicate to us-often get misunderstood, which, in turn, could cause conflict and frustration in personal and professional relationships. Effective communication, therefore, helps us better understand a person or situation and enables us convey our message across narrow differences, build trust and respect, and create an environment where creative ideas, problem solving, affection, and caring can flourish. This course is, therefore, designed to enable participants to acquire the much-needed skill and knowledge to communicate effectively.

  • Characteristics of effective communication skills,
  • The contribution of effective listening in facilitating communication,
  • Different types of listening,
  • Barriers in communication,
  • Strategies for effective communication,
  • Giving and receiving feedback,
  • Essentials of communication- do’s and don’ts

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Define and understand communication and the communication process and skills,
  • List and overcome the barriers in a communication process,
  • Practice active listening,
  • Acquire skills to improve verbal and non-verbal communication,
  • Identify characteristics of effective communication skills,
  • Develop the ability to understand the different forms of communication skills,
  • Make use of non-verbal communication/body language,
  • Express themselves to others by making clear what they really mean,
  • Navigate challenging situations, and build better relationships at work,
  • Improve their capacity to better communicate with others at workplace, with co-workers and other groups.
