Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)

Course overview:

This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to be able to develop an effective M&E system for your project, programme or organisation. It builds the capacity of development and humanitarian professionals in the area of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL). Learners will increase their understanding of MEAL, test their new knowledge through case-based scenarios, and enhance their ability to track the progress and impact of their projects. This course will provide participants with M&E tools, techniques and resources needed for planning, organizing, and/or managing programs and projects. Through exercises and group work, participants will learn the links between results-based measurement, monitoring and program evaluation. This course is structured in such a way that it guides learners to apply monitoring and evaluation principles within the context of their unique work environment

  • Using M&E information for learning, accountability and management decision-making 

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Gain basic understanding and skills in M&E concepts, M&E plans, frameworks, indicators and data sources, collection and analysis
  • Master key principles of monitoring and evaluation relevant to implementing projects and programmes
  • Build a Monitoring & Evaluation system throughout the course for a real project
  • Apply results-based management principles
  • Communicate findings to stimulate learning and reflection
