Course overview:

Adolescents and youth make up one third of Ethiopian population Adolescents and youth are different from adults The period is a critical age for risk-taking, and practicing risky behaviors and with long-term health consequences Adolescence and youth is a critical period for professional interventions.  Governments and development agencies are considering this group as a priority population in terms of development and for setting standard services, introduce minimum service and training package.

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Have the necessary knowledge on adolescent development and characteristic features of adolescence
  • Be more sensitive to the health needs of adolescent and youth
  • Be capable to provide adolescent/youth-friendly health services
  • Responses to AY health needs depend on understanding their physical, cognitive and social changes with short and long-term consequences
  • Allows providers to be more responsive to the needs of adolescents and youth by acknowledging their uniqueness.
  • Orient and sensitize health-care managers and service providers to the particular features of adolescent and youth that layout appropriate approaches to properly and adequately respond to selected priority health needs and problems of adolescents and youth.
